Vital information was crucial to Ayrshire weapons and drug raids

South Ayrshire's top cop says community intelligence proved vital in a 'day of action' which saw a haul of drugs and weapons seized.

Chief Inspector Kevin Lammie has praised residents for raising the alarm to officers after they blitzed addresses in Ayr and Girvan, making multiple arrests.

Police stormed doors on Monday, March 20 as part of a planned 'day of action'.

A raid on Birch Terrace in Girvan uncovered Class A drugs and weapons including knives. Three men, aged 24, 30 and 39 were all arrested in connection with the sting. With all three men appearing at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

At an address in Ayr's Lochside Road, a 45-year-old man was charged with possession of a quantity of Class A and Class B controlled drugs.

A property at Macadam Square also came under siege with a quantity of Class A drugs removed. Following that raid a 54-year-old woman will be subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

Further arrests were made in the town's Philip Square, with more Class A drugs seized. Two women aged 49 and 29, along with a 34-year-old man were caught. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Chief Inspector Lammie has warned the clampdown on criminals will continue as he urged any residents who had concerns over illicit activities to get in touch.

Chief Inspector Kevin Lammie said: “Officers in South Ayrshire listen to the greatest concerns of our communities and we are committed to acting on local policing priorities including drugs, violent crime and anti-social behaviour.

“The vast majority of residents do not tolerate criminal activity and action such as this is based on community intelligence which is used to target our activity.

“We will continue to listen to our communities and act on their concerns to target those involved in criminality while protecting the most vulnerable in our society.

“I would urge anyone with concerns or information to call 101 or to speak to any of our officers.”
