West Lothian brass band recovers from pandemic, returns with new name and full lineup of events

The West Lothian brass band has bounced back from the pandemic with a new name for a year-long event.

The Kirkton Brass Band has undergone some major changes following pandemic restrictions, changing its name from Newland Concert Brass this year.

In 2021, the band was devastated by the loss of its president, Jim Walker, who died suddenly last year.

Jim has been a highly respected and highly regarded committee member since the band's formation in 1987.

The band will perform their next concert in his partnership with the newly named Jim Walker. Center he September 2nd.

His first rehearsal took place in 1987 at Bathgate's Newland Academy and named brass player for 35 years.

Since then, the band has had several rehearsal venues and now has its own band hall on Belvedere Road, Bathgate.

Similar to the name change, their rebranding included a new band logo, namely the Three Span Arch. was included.

The new logo reflects the historic landmark at the entrance to Kirkton Park in Bathgate. It has been part of the rebranding of the town of Bathgate in recent years, with the town's
street signs and historic plaques.

It also reflects the iconic three-span spruce arch that is part of both the busgate procession and community festival.

The band maintains a blue uniform. This will be well recognized by locals as the brass player has been performing at community events for nearly 40 years.

Over the years the band has performed at events such as Party in the Park and local celebrations, and has performed with River Kids, Cancer Research UK, The British Heart Foundation, CHAS, and the Benny Museum.

The Kirkton Brass Band competed in Divisions 2, 3 and 4, and the British Qualified for brass band. 5 championships.

Kirkton Brass participated in the Scottish Championships at the Perth Concert Hall in March 2022 and he also took part in the Bassgate March in June. The brass player also took part in the June 2022 "library ruckus event".

Band her manager Karen Heenan said:
