What channel is South Korea vs Portugal? Kick-off time, TV and live stream details

Portugal need just a point against South Korea to secure top spot in Group H at the 2022 World Cup when the two sides go head-to-head on Friday.

A Selecao have already secured their place in the last 16 following victories over Ghana and Uruguay in their first two fixtures - winning 3-2 and 2-0, respectively. Making it three wins from three will now be the aim, although it is not a necessity.

The Taegeuk Warriors, however, need to claim all three points if they are to progress to the next round. A respectable 0-0 draw with Uruguay in their first game was then followed by a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Ghana, meaning anything less than a win will signal an early World Cup exit.

When is South Korea vs Portugal?

South Korea vs Portugal will kick-off at 3pm (GMT) on Friday, December 2 at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar.

This will be just the second ever meeting between the two sides, following on from their group stage clash at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea.

Former Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung scored the only goal of the game in the 70th minute to give South Korea a famous victory that saw them advance to the last 16 as group winners, while Portugal were knocked out after finishing third.

Team news

With a place in the last 16 of the World Cup still up for grabs, South Korea boss Paulo Bento will be expected to name his strongest lineup to face his home country in order to stand the best chance of claiming all three points, where nothing less than a win will suffice.

That could potentially see Na Sang-ho and Lee Jae-sung reintroduced in midfield and attack, although Cho Gue-sung’s brace against Ghana should see him retain his place ahead of Hwang Ui-jo up front. Tottenham ’s Son Heung-min will be the main dangerman once more, but Hwang Hee-chan (thigh) remains a doubt through injury.

As for Portugal, they need just a point to secure top spot but Fernando Santos is expected to opt for a number of changes in order to freshen things up and rest some of his best players ahead of the last 16, while potentially avoiding any more injury setbacks.

An enforced change could be that of left back Nuno Mendes (hamstring), who may be forced to join PSG teammate Danilo Pereira (chest) on the sidelines. That would see Raphael Guerreiro return to the side, while Porto’s Otavio will be hoping to regain his place in midfield. Rafael Leao, Joao Palhinha and Goncalo Ramos could all be handed starts.
