What time is Jerome Powell speaking today?

The Chairman of the Federal Reserve will be speaking today, for the first time since being confirmed for his second four year term by the Senate last week.

He's scheduled to speak today, Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the The Wall Street Journal’s Future of Everything Festival.

What time is Jerome Powell speaking today?

Jerome Powell will speak at 2p.m. ET today.

He's expected to discuss what the central bank's plans are regarding inflation, as well as what impacts these plans may have on the economy.

This comes after the Federal Reserve raised its interest rates by half a percentage point, the highest spike since 2000.

During a May 4, 2022 press conference following the increase, Mr. Powell began a speech by addressing the American people who will be affected by the Fed's attempts to lower inflation, without pushing us into a recession.

These higher rates push up the amount it costs to take out a mortgage loan, a car loan, credit card fees, and more.

He said that "Inflation is much too high,"

"And we understand the hardship it is causing, and we’re moving expeditiously to bring it back down,”

“We have both the tools we need and the resolve that it will take to restore price stability.”
