THERE are still almost two months to go until Christmas, but you can get ahead of the game by starting early.
The festive season always comes around much quicker than we think, and by planning ahead, you can save both time and money.
To bag the best possible deal and for cheaper Christmas presents, we've rounded up when to shop in stores from Primark to Wilko.
It comes as households face soaring costs for putting presents under the tree and a festive feast on the table.
The cost of living crisis has come with higher prices on everything from groceries and fuel to rent and mortgages.
There are also fears of a looming turkey shortage for the big day.
To help you get your spending under control, we've rounded up the best times to shop at some of the major retailers.
Before you splash out, remember to always shop around as you may be able to find cheaper deals elsewhere.
Prices can change with no notice in the run-up to Christmas as retailers battle for your cash.
And if you order online, make sure to factor in delivery costs in your budget.
Primark
Primark is already well-known for its affordable prices, but it doesn't usually offer a lot of sales.
But there are often “secret” sale items in store if you know where to look.
These items can be reduced by half or more from their original price and are more likely to land on the rails when the seasonal sales hit.
In 2021, the retailer started its festive sale before the big day.
A worker has previously also revealed Primark’s busiest period is between 11am and 3pm in the run-up to Christmas.
She recommended people shop early in the morning to avoid being disappointed.
Poundland
Poundland is perfect for stocking filler goodies that won't break the bank.
It's often best to visit the store first thing in the morning so you can scan the shelves and sniff out deals before anyone else.
There are over 800 Poundland stores in the UK, with opening hours often ranging between 8am and 9pm.
Any restocking will generally happen when stores close or just before they open, meaning Poundland shops will be fullest in the morning.
It also makes sense to shop at the quietest times to beat others to the best deals.
Wilko
Another high street store that's worth visiting for great Christmas deals is Wilko.
For example, it's currently slashed the prices of plenty of Christmas trees by 50%.
The cheapest discounted one - a 6ft tree - now costs just £37.50, down from £75.
Judging by popular Facebook shopping groups, the trees are flying off the shelves as consumers rush to stock up.
It's best to keep an eye out on early seasonal deals like this - and ask staff when other offers are coming up as the festive season approaches.
Argos
Argos is one of the go-to shops for parents looking to bag toys and electronics for the kids this Christmas.
The retailer often reduces prices on toys in September and October - and this year was no different.
One mum used it as the perfect time to snap up Christmas gifts for the little ones.
Previously, Argos also slashed prices just before Christmas in December so it's worth keeping an eye out as we head into winter.
B&M
B&M is great for cheap toys, food, homeware and more.
The retailer has previously confirmed that different products will be marked down in price every day, so it's difficult to tell exactly when you should aim to shop.
But some shoppers have shared on Facebook forums and elsewhere which days you might find certain deals.
Staff reduce food, pet items and cleaning products every Tuesday.
Seasonal items like past Christmas stock, on the other hand, are often down in price on Thursdays and Saturdays.
The retailer has also previously claimed that all 650 of its stores are stocked with new items daily, too.
So if you're looking for a bargain dupe or other low-cost goodies, it doesn't hurt to try your chances throughout the week.
Shoppers are also rushing to snap up a Christmas staple for 18p.
