20-year-old Will Smeed became the first player to score 100 inThe Hundred as Birmingham Phoenix beat Southern Brave with an undefeated 101. rice field.
After impressing Somerset with a T20 blast, Phoenix's breakout in last year's Hundred was a superb innings for Smede, who was the star. He has also been in contention for England, making his debut for the Lions against South Africa last month for the List.
These games were his only appearances outside of T20 or Hundred, and former England whiteball captain Eoin Morgan said Smeed's century made him a "domestic hero." '' and his success was credited with ``a great line in the sand of English cricket''. 21}
Morgan told Sky Sports: }
``It's a big borderline for English cricket. He doesn't play first class cricket. It could be a new avenue for international cricket.
“We have seen in other competitions around the world that domestic franchise tournaments that attract big names produce national heroes. Tonight, Will Smead is one of them."
