Woman, 69, 'traumatised' as masked duo ransack home and steal property worth 'thousands of pounds'

A Renfrewshire pensioner has been left traumatised after two masked thugs ransacked her home and stole property worth thousands of pounds.

The 69-year-old was held in her own home by the callous duo who swiped personal belongings during a terrifying incident which happened around 1.15pm on Friday.

Both men were wearing balaclavas as they ruthlessly raided the woman's property in Glamis Avenue, Elderslie with police saying she suffered an "horrendous ordeal".

The woman was not injured but left "devastated and traumatised" as a result of what she has gone through.

Detectives are now on the hunt for the pair with descriptions issued of two suspects they are desperate to trace.

In a bid to reassure the local community, police confirmed "highly visible" patrols would be deployed in the area over the coming days.

One of the suspects is described as wearing a balaclava covering his whole face, a grey baseball or skip cap, grey tracksuit bottoms and a top.

He was also wearing grey and red gloves, similar to gardening gloves. He was tall and classed as well-built or stocky.

The second suspect was smaller and thinner and also wearing a balaclava and a black baseball cap. He was wearing dark clothing and a pair of dark cloves.

Detective Sergeant Jason Buxton of Police Scotland said: “This was a horrendous ordeal on a woman who was in her own home and robbed of her personal belongings and property.

"She has been left devastated and traumatised as a result of this incident.

“We’re appealing for anyone who was in the area and saw anything suspicious, or has any information, in particular, any suspicious vehicles – a dark blue possibly 4x4 vehicle – which may have been captured on CCTV or dash-cam footage to please come forward.
