Woman on plane wakes up to a kid drawing on her socks - but people slam her for no shoes

Sitting next to a bored child on a plane can be an interesting experience. When they are cooped up in a confined space over a long period of time, they have to keep themselves entertained somehow.

One woman didn't expect to be the entertainment herself when she realised her sock had been used as a canvas while she was asleep.

Passenger Julia Valentine, who often shares pictures from her travels on Instagram, had taken her shoes off and placed them into the gap between the wall of the plane and the seat in front while she slept.

When she woke up, she realised that the child sitting in front of her had drawn a pattern into her crisp, white socks using pink and purple pens.

She shared the footage online, with the caption: "I woke up to some random kid drawing on my white socks."

The video clip was then picked up by the Instagram account Passenger Shaming, who often post controversial airplane behaviour with their 1.4 million followers.

The Instagram account offered their take on it: "We are often asked about wearing socks on planes, and we are 100% okay with it. IF they are clean, don’t smell, and stay in your own space and not propped on various parts of the aircraft.

"If you’ve ever flown first or business class you’ve probably been given a pair of socks or slippers, so it’s definitely a thing."

Some people in the comment section commended what the child had done, saying: "So wait. Their feet were up in the space of the seat in front and a kid coloured on them? Hah. Good on that kid."

Another said: "Keep your shoes on you savage."

A third added: "Only yourself to blame. If your feet are somewhere they can be 'drawn on' then they are in the wrong place."

The Instagram account advised to always put your shoes on if you're going to the toilet on a plane.

The post ended with: "Oh, and never ever ever everrrrrr go to the lavatory without wearing shoes, because the liquid on the floor is NOT WATER."

A former flight attendant previously warned that passengers should never take their shoes off on a plane because you could be jeopardising your safety.

Tony Kuna said: "Besides stinking up the whole cabin, footwear is essential during a plane emergency, even though it is not part of the flight safety information.

"During an emergency, all sorts of debris and unpleasant ground surfaces will block your way towards the exit, as well as outside the aircraft.

"If your feet [aren’t] properly covered, you'll have a hard time making your way to safety. Imagine destroying your bare feet as your run down the aisle covered with broken glass, fires and metal shards."
