Woman stabbed to death with beach umbrella picked up by wind gust

A woman died after being hit in the chest by a beach umbrella.

Tammy Perrott, who visited a beach in Garden City, South Carolina on Wednesday, was taken to hospital after the incident.

However, she died of her chest trauma an hour after her.

Hawley County Chief Medical Examiner Tamara Willard said the beach had been blown off its anchor by high winds when her parasol stuck into Ms. Perrott.

An off-duty medical professional desperately tried to treat her 63-year-old patient while waiting for an ambulance.

Holly County emergency management spokesperson Thomas Bell said the community was "hurt" after the "horrible loss." I was from Surfside near Garden City Beach.

Her Scotty's Beach Bar, a favorite drink spot in the area, gave Facebook tributes.

They wrote:

"There are some things we will never understand, but what we do know is that no one is going to say anything bad about this woman. Just as sweet as her days." Being on the beach should be everyone's goal.'

Beach umbrellas have spikes at the tip that help push them into the sand, and their wide canopy prevents them from getting caught in the umbrella. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said this week that it could expose you to high winds if not properly secured.

Federal agencies say about 3,000 people hit the beach each year.

Senators Tim Kaine of Virginia and Mark Warner of Virginia after a Virginia woman was killed by an umbrella in 2016. has called on safety agencies to review beach umbrella safety regulations and launch a safety campaign.
