‘Vintage’ fundraising efforts takes in €4,575 for Arranmore RNLI

It was a vintage fundraising effort which helped to gather a whopping €4,575 for the Arranmore RNLI.

The Errigal Vintage car club showcased their vintage cars on June 5 last at Mc Devitt’s garage in Annagry.

Over forty cars took part in the lineup for three hours, they then proceeded on the road to Burtonport where they did a loop journey back to Annagry.

Speaking to one of the organisers of the event, Martin Wilson said “We started this club in 2011 with just a few people and it has since grown to over forty five.

“We organise car events for various charities and this year we wanted to acknowledge the important work the volunteer crew of the Arranmore RNLI do.

“We know the crew risk their lives helping those in danger on the sea and with more people using the sea for pleasure they provide an essential service, living by the sea makes you very aware of the dangers involved and we are just really pleased to be able to help.

“All the members involved in the fundraising event covered their own expenses and I want to thank everybody who helped in any way as every penny raised was donated to the Arranmore RNLI.”

Coxswain Jimmy Early accepted a cheque for €4,575 from the vintage car club members.

He said “On behalf of the Arranmore lifeboat I want to say a huge thank you to all the people involved for their very generous contribution.

“It takes a lot of time and effort to organise an event like this and we are really grateful to all in the car club, the people who stood at the roadside with collection buckets and everybody who donated time, money and effort.

“It was also great to see many of the cars and people at Burtonport supporting the lifeboat. From all of us involved with the RNLI, thank you”
