The Minister for Commerce is calling on citizens to report criminals to the authorities after Saint Lucia recorded two homicides last week and another this week.

Noting the gravity of crime and its impact on Saint Lucia, Hon. Emma Hippolyte is urging individuals to step forward with information that will assist the authorities in solving some of the atrocities committed of late.

Hippolyte said that many individuals are aware of those responsible for committing crimes as “the persons who are doing this are our children, our sons, our cousins, nephews (and) boyfriends.”

“We have the information, we see the things that are happening in the home or around the home, we know the implications of these activities so we cannot bury our head in the sand and think my boyfriend or my niece or my nephew is doing this, but it is somebody else that’s going to pay for it,” the minister said at a press conference last week.

Hippolyte also spoke about the death of Donald McKinnon, a British National who was shot and killed in her constituency last week Saturday.

According to her, “the challenge for us is to see what is in the head of our young people, we don’t know what it is, but I used this moment when I addressed the public in Soufriere at the launch of our Christmas village to implore the residents of Soufriere and I’m using this moment to implore the residents of Saint Lucia…”

“We have a responsibility to put an end to the darkness that is covering our land,” Hippolyte said.
