Joel Cholo Brooks is a Liberian journalist who previously worked for several international news outlets including the BBC African Service. He is the CEO of the Global News Network which publishes two local weeklies, The Star and The GNN-Liberia Newspapers. He is a member of the Press Union Of Liberia (PUL) since 1986, and several other international organizations of journalists, and is currently contributing to the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation as Liberia Correspondent.
At least 20 people have been injured.
“At this moment, Russian terrorists’ artillery killed 16 people in the city of Kostyantynivka, Donetsk Oblast. It was just an ordinary market. Shops. A pharmacy. Innocent people,” he wrote.
He added that many others sustained injuries and the number of casualties may rise further.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal provided additional information, including the heartbreaking fact that one child was among the victims.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported that the area struck by Russian forces is now surrounded by police.
Local Telegram channel “Typova Kostyantynivka” has shared videos from the scene of the incident.
