Senator Saah Joseph under public scrutiny for allegedly “personalizing public assets” in wake of Election Campaign

By Our Staff Writer

Mr. Saah Hallie Joseph, commonly called Ebola Hero, has been a darling of Monrovians. This is principally so, because of his outstanding role in fighting the deadly Ebola virus. During the Ebola outbreak, Joseph provided free ambulance services at the time the Liberian government could not. He used this popularity to contest the representative seat in the Liberian legislature and won. He again contested the senatorial seat for Montserrado which he again won.

While initially seen as a promising leader dedicated to serving the people, it wasn’t long before his actions began to raise eyebrows.

Saah Joseph, known for his charismatic personality and strong political connections, soon started personalizing government properties for his own political gains. He devised a cunning plan to utilize county development funds, which were intended for the betterment of the community, to purchase earthmoving equipment.

These machines were meant to aid in the development and improvement of local infrastructure. However, instead of using them for their intended purpose, Joseph saw an opportunity to promote his reelection campaign.

Admittedly, Saah Joseph did not shy away from acknowledging that the equipment had indeed been obtained using public funds. He told a radio program recently that the equipment were acquired from government finances. He said the equipment were available to the people of Montserrado once they can be fueled.

Joseph has not been able to explain why he was using public assets as if they were his personal properties. The senator believed that by showcasing his ability to acquire such assets, he could strengthen his appeal among the voters and secure their support for another term in office.

But Joseph’s actions didn’t stop there. Eager to solidify his position as a powerful political figure, he decided to import several buses from the United States. These buses were claimed to be a generous contribution from the senator to the people of Montserrado County; for which the Superintendent, a local government official is responsible for managing their affairs.

While Joseph’s intentions may have seemed noble on the surface, many started questioning the real motives behind his actions. Skeptics argued that these buses were not genuine acts of philanthropy but rather a clever ploy to gain favor and influence within the county. By presenting himself as a benefactor and aligning himself with the local government, Saah Joseph aimed to strengthen his position and expand his political reach.

As news of Saah Joseph’s questionable actions spread throughout the country, citizens became divided in their opinions. Some see him as a charismatic leader who was taking innovative steps to promote development and secure his constituents’ support. Others, however, viewed his actions as self-serving, criticizing his misuse of public funds and the potential conflicts of interest they represented.

The controversy surrounding Saah Joseph’s personalization of government properties and questionable use of county development funds became a hot topic in the Liberian political landscape. It has ignited debates in public places, sparking investigations, and forcing the senator to defend his actions in the face of mounting public scrutiny.

Whether Saah Joseph’s actions were ultimately seen as a shrewd political strategy or a breach of public trust remained to be seen. The story of his personalization of government resources and his attempts to leverage them for his political gains served as a reminder of the delicate balance between serving the public and pursuing personal ambitions in the world of politics.
