The primary suspect is a 19-year-old Austrian national with North Macedonian heritage. Public security chief Franz Ruf revealed that the individual resigned from his job on July 25, 2024, citing "big plans." The suspect had recently altered his appearance and had been consuming and disseminating extremist content online. During a search of his residence, authorities discovered materials for constructing explosives, extremist propaganda, counterfeit currency, and various weapons.
A 17-year-old Austrian citizen of Turkish-Croatian descent was also detained. This individual had recently secured employment with a company providing services at the concert venue. Officials noted that the teenager had shown signs of radicalization and was previously known to authorities.
The investigation led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Iraqi national who had pledged allegiance to an extremist group on August 6, 2024. The interior ministry stated that his connection to the concert plot remains unclear. Reports suggest that authorities are working to revoke his refugee status and initiate deportation proceedings.
A 15-year-old Austrian national of Turkish heritage was questioned as part of the investigation. This individual provided information about the main suspect's recent behavioral changes and inquiries about explosive devices.
"The safety of our citizens and visitors is our utmost priority. We are working diligently to investigate this matter fully and ensure the security of all public events."
