Oasis Reunion Tour Ticket Sales Begin Amid High Demand and Technical Issues
Oasis' first tour in 15 years faces online ticketing challenges. Over 1 million tickets available for 17 gigs across UK and Ireland, starting July 4, with prices from £74 to £506.
The highly anticipated Oasis reunion tour ticket sales commenced on Saturday, marking the Gallagher brothers' return to the stage after a 15-year hiatus. However, the process was marred by technical difficulties as online platforms struggled to cope with the overwhelming demand from fans.
The Britpop icons are set to perform 17 concerts across five cities, beginning on July 4, 2024. This tour marks their first live performances since the band's split in 2009, rekindling memories of their 1990s heyday when they dominated the UK music scene.
Ticket prices range from £74 (approximately $97) to £506 ($666) for premium packages, with over one million tickets available. The high demand led to long virtual queues and error messages on authorized sales platforms like Ticketmaster and Gigs and Tours.
Oasis, formed in Manchester in 1991, quickly rose to fame with their debut album "Definitely Maybe" in 1994, which became the fastest-selling debut album in British history at the time. The band has sold over 75 million records worldwide and boasts eight UK number-one singles and albums.
The tour will cover Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin. Manchester, the band's hometown, is particularly excited about the homecoming gigs. Sacha Lord, Manchester's nighttime economy adviser, expressed the city's anticipation: "There's a big buzz. When they set foot on that stage for the first time, it's going to be a really special moment."
"This is a homecoming gig."
The reunion tour is expected to provide a significant economic boost to the host cities, benefiting hotels, bars, restaurants, and shops. This impact is reminiscent of the band's peak years when their concerts drew massive crowds, including their record-setting 1996 performance at Knebworth Park, which attracted 250,000 people over two nights.
Noel and Liam Gallagher, known for their tumultuous relationship and public feuds, split in 2009 following a backstage altercation at a festival near Paris. Their reunion has sparked both excitement and curiosity among fans, given their iconic status in British music history.
The band has issued warnings against unauthorized ticket resales, emphasizing that only face-value tickets from authorized sites will be valid. This move aims to prevent the exploitation of fans through inflated secondary market prices, which have reportedly reached as high as £6,000 ($7,800).
As the tour approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating the return of Oasis' signature sound, characterized by singalong rock choruses and the distinctive vocals of Liam Gallagher. The band's influence on British music culture remains significant, with hits like "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back in Anger" continuing to resonate with audiences worldwide.
