Molino, Jan-Michael and the Garcia and Jones brothers in T&T’s 40-man Gold Cup shortlist

Trinidad and Tobago National Senior Team coach Dennis Lawrence is likely to lean heavily on overseas-based experience for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, as roughly two-thirds of the players named in his 40-man shortlist earn their living outside the twin island republic.

With the domestic leagues inactive for the past six months, Lawrence named 13 Pro League players in his shortlist and, even then, that included W Connection attacker Marcus Joseph, who recently appeared for India club, Gokulam Kerala FC.

Veteran Central FC goalkeeper Marvin Phillip and Police FC custodian Adrian Foncette earned picks alongside battle-hardened defenders like Carlyle Mitchell (La Horquetta Rangers), Curtis Gonzales (Defence Force), journeyman forward Shahdon Winchester (Connection) and former National Under-20 playmaker Judah Garcia (Defence Force).

Attacking midfielder Kevin Molino (Minnesota United—USA), gifted wingers Levi Garcia (Kiryat Shmona—Israel) and Joevin Jones (Seattle Sounders FC—USA) and versatile midfielder Khaleem Hyland (Al Faisaly FC—Saudi Arabia) head the foreign contingent.

Lawrence also included three overseas-based goalkeepers in Nicklas Frenderup (HB Koge—Denmark), Gregory Ranjitsingh (Orlando City—USA) and Jan-Michael Williams (FC Halifax Town—Canada).

There was a maiden summons for former National Under-20 defender Leland Archer (Charleston Battery—USA) while winger Kathon St Hillaire (SKF Iclinic Sered—Slovakia), forward Akeem Roach (Mosta FC—Malta) and defender Kareem Moses (FC Edmonton—Canada) got recalls.

The Soca Warriors are drawn with United States, Panama and Guyana in Group D of the Gold Cup with the winner and runners-up advancing to the knockout round. They open their campaign on 18 June against Panama at the Allianz Field in St Paul, Minnesota.
