Commuters in the capital city can soon expect relief, as Port of Spain mayor Chinua Alleyne says the council will be embarking on an "aggressive" road-patching exercise.

His spoke in an interview with reporters at City Hall after the City Corporation statutory meeting on Wednesday. "We've gone about the city and taken a look at all of the road infrastructure and areas where you could find potholes.

The Ministry of Works and Transport, via PURE (the Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency Unit), is responsible for the major roads and major road-paving activities.

"The council, the city, is primarily responsible for maintenance or patching, as opposed to construction. So we are about to embark on an aggressive road patching programme," he said.

Alleyne said November will be used to do final preparations for the programme, and he is confident work will begin before the year's end.
