In a startling turn of events an explosion rocked the outskirts of Jounieh (a predominantly Christian town north of Beirut) on 10/19/24. The incident which occurred on a busy highway claimed at least two lives according to Lebanons health ministry
The blast – believed to be caused by an Israeli strike – targeted a Honda SUV travelling southbound towards Beirut. Eyewitnesses reported a series of events: first‚ a small explosion then the vehicle losing control and finally‚ a larger blast. Two occupants (a man and a woman) were seen fleeing the car before the second explosion
Israels military is currently examining the reports of this strike. Hezbollah the armed group thats been clashing with Israeli forces along Lebanons southern border hasnt provided any statement regarding the incident. Its worth noting that Hezbollahs top brass has recently suffered losses due to targeted Israeli attacks
We heard a small blast and saw the car start to swerve
This marks the first time Jounieh and its surrounding areas have been directly affected by the ongoing conflict – a development that could signal an expansion of hostilities beyond the southern regions of Lebanon
The Lebanese authorities are investigating the incident‚ while tensions in the region continue to escalate. As the situation unfolds residents in previously unaffected areas are now on high alert
