Should the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka change his mind and appoint an Attorney-General beyond his Cabinet, here are some of the top contenders suitable for the role:
Savenaca Banuve
Mr Banuve was a legal consultant in a private law firm, he was also Fiji’s counsel to the China Development Bank on multi-million-dollar Hydro-Electric Project.
Lead counsel for Solomon Islands government in High Court and Court of Appeal.
He is a member of the bar in Fiji and Solomon Islands.
He has been the Solomon Islands’ Solicitor-General since July 2013.

Nicholas Barnes
Hewas admitted to the bar in England and Wales, Fiji, New Zealand, Grenada and Tuvalu. He is skilled in Environmental Law, Employment Law, Commercial Litigation, Civil Litigation, and qualified mediator.
He is the Assistant General Counsel at Natural Waters Viti Limited (FIJI Water).

Ms Vaurasi is the Principal and Founder of Shekinah Law.
She has more than 15 years of civil litigation, family law, commercial law, conveyancing, contract law, torts and criminal litigation experience. Ms Vaurasi is also an accredited Mediator by the Singapore Mediation Centre.
Ms Vaurasi is the first female President of the Fiji Law Society, a position she held for four years and a member of several Boards in Fiji and the Legal Advisor for Scripture Union, Fiji.

Mr Leung is an accomplished and highly qualified legal professional with more than 30 years of expertise in international law, diplomacy and justice across national, regional and international levels, with a strong background in governance and human rights.

Ms Philips is a Human Rights Trainer, State Legal Officer, Senior Associate in a major Fiji law firm and has served as a judicial officer on the Fiji Bench, as a Magistrate and later a High Court Judge.
Although a specialist litigator, with a focus on commercial, employment and administrative law, her special interest centres on the various streams of human rights practice. She is currently employed as the Manager Employee Relations (Pacific) and Senior Corporate Lawyer in ANZ Bank’s Pacific Headquarters in Suva, Fiji.

Mr Naidu has degrees in Commerce and Law from the University of Auckland, New Zealand and was admitted to the bars of New Zealand in 1989 and Fiji in 1995.
He is a former journalist in Fiji and New Zealand, he worked in major law firms in New Zealand between 1989 and 1995 before returning to Fiji.
