In the early days social networks were just simple places for sharing cat photos and life updates (remember those times). Around eight years ago things took an unexpected turn — masses of troublemakers discovered how to mis-use these platforms for their own goals
The big tech companies had to act quick: they made new rules trying to keep good conversations while stopping bad stuff. These social-media giants worked hard to block scams fake news and mean posts but some people didnt like these changes
Right-wing users saw these platforms through a very specific lens shaped by their go-to news sources. For them social-media became a place to start arguments and spread un-checked info about their political opponents — especially targeting Barack Obama and democrats. When their posts got less visible or accounts got limited they saw it as proof that California-based tech companies were against them: not as normal results of breaking platform rules
