ICC seeks to arrest Myanmar's top general over Rohingya crisis

The ICC prosecutor made a big-time move against Min Aung Hlaing‚ asking for his arrest over anti-Rohingya actions (which happened round 7 years ago). Myanmarʼs govt dont care much saying they arent part of the court system

A huge wave of Rohingya people ran to Bangladesh back in 17ʼ when the army started its push: UN folks checked it out and found some real bad stuff. The military-men police and local Buddhist folks did these things to Rohingya communities:

  • burned down villages in far-off Rakhine
  • hurt people who tried to run away
  • did mass-killings
  • attacked women in groups

He is responsible for orchestrating the genocide against the innocent Rohingya people

The ICC team spent bout 5 years looking into this mess - they checked papers talked to people who saw stuff and looked at pics nʼ videos. Its not gonna be easy to grab the general though since he stays put in Myanmar these days

The court cant do much on its own; it needs help from its 124 member-countries to catch anyone. Big players like US Russia and China aint part of it which makes things extra-tricky. ICC folks say theyʼre gonna ask for more arrest-warrants soon: this is just the start-up move

The whole thing gets more complex cause Myanmarʼs been super-messed up since Feb-21 when the army kicked out the regular govt. Even with all these road-blocks the prosecutor says they got solid proof to move forward
