A targeted strike in Beiruts residential area hit Baʼath Party offices killing Hezbollahs media chief. The incident happened during increased military actions between Israel and Hezbollah in recent months

A precision strike hit Baʼath Party offices in Beiruts Ras al-Nabaa district this sunday killing Mohammad Afif (Hezbollahs media-relations head) and hurting three others

The attack targeted a multi-story structure where many war-displaced people found shelter: civil-defense teams rushed to the scene as upper floors collapsed. Local security blocked-off the area while ambulances moved through the crowded streets

Afif worked as a long-time advisor to the groups former leader and managed Al-Manar TV station before taking his latest position. Just 6 days ago he spoke to reporters saying:

Our fighters have enough supplies for a long fight; Israeli forces cant take our land

Afifʼs last public statement

The conflict between both sides started about a year ago when Hezbollah began firing at Israeli targets right after Hamas oct-8 attack. Since late-sept Israel expanded its military actions in Lebanon targeting south east and Beirut areas

Lebanese authorities report one death and three injuries from todays strike; Israeli military didnt comment on the operation. The Baʼath Party head Ali Hijazi confirmed Afifs presence in the building during the attack

  • No evacuation warning was given before the strike
  • The area housed people escaping previous bombardments
  • Local media showed images of the damaged building
  • Gunfire kept crowds away from the scene
