Massive Russian strike hits Ukraine: Biggest aerial assault since summer shakes nation

In a wide-scale attack on sunday Russia sent its biggest aerial assault package towards Ukraine since late-summer using both high-tech missiles and unmanned drones (which targeted multiple regions across the country)

Andrii Sybiha Foreign Minister pointed out that peaceful cities and sleeping people became targets; Ukrainian air-defense systems managed to stop most threats - taking down 104 missiles and 42 drones. The attack caused power-cuts in many areas and seven people lost their lives

The timing seems connected to recent world-events: coming right after Donald Trumpʼs election win and a rare phone-call between Putin and German leader Olaf Scholz. The assault hits Ukraine as winter approaches – making infrastructure damage even more problematic

Impacts spread across different regions:

• Two deaths in Mykolaiv from drone hits
• Rail depot attack in Dnipropetrovsk killed two more
• Woman died in Lviv region near Polish border
• Two fatalities reported in Odesa area
• Kyiv saw building fires and injuries

Poland had to get its air-force ready as missiles flew close to its borders. This attack comes as Russian ground forces try to push forward in eastern parts while Ukraine holds onto some positions near Kursk. The war is now getting close to its 1000th day mark since it started in early-2022
