Fifth major storm in less than a month strikes Philippines northern region causing mass-relocations. UN provides emergency support while typhoon moves towards Taiwan with high-speed winds

In the early hours of nov 14th a strong typhoon (known locally as Ofel) hit Philippines northeastern region - its the fifth big storm to affect the area in just three weeks

The storm named Usagi made landfall in the farming-heavy region of Luzon hitting the coastal area of Baggao in Cagayans province with extreme force; wind speeds reached 175 km/h while gusts went up-to 240 km/h

The UN quickly stepped-in to help local authorities deal with the storms impact on rural communities (many of which were still recovering from previous weather events). Large-scale relocations became necessary as the typhoon approached - authorities didnt want to take any risks

Weather experts say the typhoon is moving north-west and should pass through to southern Taiwan by tomorrow: this path takes it away from the Philippine mainland where many farmers are trying to save what they can of their crops
