At a womens town hall event about a week ago Donald Trump made a joke calling himself the “father of IVF“ while talking about reproductive issues. The event‚ held in Georgia was part of Trumps effort to win over female voters before the upcoming election (on Nov 5th)
Trump said‚ “I want to talk about IVF Im the father of IVF‚ so I want to hear this question.“ His campaign later explained it was just a joke. Trump tried to show the Republican party supports IVF‚ even though some conservatives dont agree with it:
- Republicans blocked laws to protect IVF twice recently
- Some Republicans say these laws arent needed
- Trump claimed‚ “We really are the party for IVF“
IVF became a big topic after Alabamaʼs top court said embryos are children about 8 months ago. This made people worry about using storing and moving embryos. Republicans tried to fix the problem‚ while Democrats said more rights could be at risk.
Kamala Harris when asked about Trumps words‚ said “The reality is his actions have been very harmful to women and families in America on this issue.“ She warned people not to get “distracted by his choice of words“
A recent poll shows Harris is more popular with women voters: 49% support her‚ while 40% support Trump. People also trust Democrats more on reproductive rights issues
During the town hall‚ Trump used strong language calling his opponents “evil“ and warning of an “enemy from within“ – words hes used before. He also suggested using the National Guard or army to deal with “radical-left lunatics‚“ though he cant order this now that hes not president
