Rehabilitation centres to join General Healthcare System gradually

Rehabilitation services provided in Cyprus will gradually and not in total join the General Healthcare System (GeSY) because of the non-existence of relevant overall legislation.

This is what Philenews reported on Tuesday, clarifying that the non-existent legislation concerns the operation of specialized rehabilitation centers all across Cyprus.

Nonetheless, the HIS (Health Insurance System) is already pushing ahead the relevant procedures and is set to enter into consultation with four hospitals offering rehabilitation services.

Two are located in Nicosia, one in Limassol and one in Larnaca and the goal is for the Ministry of Health to draft and submit a relevant bill the soonest possible.

This will allow the HIS to proceed with talks with rehabilitation centers that will now receive a license to operate under provisions of the law.

Senior HIO officer Monica Kyriacou also told Philenews the goal at the moment is to start and complete the consultations with the four hospitals so that rehabilitation services can start joining the GeSY as from January 1, 2023.
