Vietnam's GDP up 5.53 pct in Q3

HANOI, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's gross domestic product (GDP) posted a 5.33-percent year-on-year growth in the third quarter, the General Statistics Office (GSO) announced Friday.

The growth rate in the third quarter is the third lowest for the cited period in the years from 2011 to 2023.

However, statistics show that the economy has still maintained a positive trend, with the third quarter's year-on-year growth higher than that of the previous one, said head of the GSO Nguyen Thi Huong.

The sector of agriculture, forestry and fishery grew by 3.72 percent against the same period last year, while industry and construction grew 5.19 percent, and services up 6.24 percent.

From January to September, the country's GDP was estimated to rise 4.24 percent from a year earlier, the third lowest for the first nine months in years from 2011 to 2023.

The consumer price index (CPI) in September 2023 increased by 1.08 percent compared to the previous month.

Average CPI in the third quarter of 2023 increased by 2.89 percent year on year.

Vietnam's gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the first quarter of 2023 increased by 3.28 percent and surged by 4.05 percent in the second quarter.

The Asian Development Bank on Wednesday revised down its forecast of Vietnam's GDP growth in 2023 to 5.8 percent from the previous estimate of 6.5 percent in April.
