Five Poker Rooms, Including Doug Polk's TX Club, Hosting 'Doyle Brunson Day' on 10/2

Doyle Brunson Day

Five poker rooms across the US will host a "Doyle Brunson Day" on Oct. 2, with special promotions to honor the late great poker legend.

Brunson, aka "The Godfather of Poker," passed away in May at 89, just before the start of the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP). He famously won the WSOP Main Event in 1976 and 1977 with 10x2x in the hole on the final hand both years.

At a memorial during this past summer's WSOP, the poker community came together to officially declare 10/2 as Doyle Brunson Day. On Monday, five rooms, including The Lodge Poker Club near Austin, Texas, have some intriguing promotions to honor "Texas Dolly."

Poker Royalty, the company that managed Doyle Brunson, is working with The Lodge and four other rooms — three Live! brand poker rooms in Pennsylvania and Maryland, and Peppermill Reno — to make Oct. 2 a memorable one for the poker community.

The Lodge, co-owned by Doug Polk, Andrew Neeme, and Brad Owen, will celebrate the day by awarding a $10,200 grand prize to a lucky cash game player who wins a hand with 10x2x on 10/2.

Peppermill, a popular spot for poker in Northern Nevada, will give out $100 when players make a flush or hit a full house with 10x2x

In the Live! poker rooms, including Philly Live! where the recent PokerStars Summer Series took place, the daytime high hand qualifier on 10/2 will be reduced to tens full of deuces, pending regulatory approval.

The World Poker Tour (WPT) also has a Doyle Brunson Day promotion planned, although details haven't yet been released. Brunson was a WPT ambassador prior to his passing.

One of the All-Time Poker Greats

Brunson, a two-time world champion, has long been considered one of the best poker players in history. With 10 WSOP bracelets, he's tied for second all-time behind Phil Hellmuth (17).

During the 1970s and 1980s, he was one of the most feared and respected players in the game. And he continued to play at a high level in some of the biggest cash games at Bellagio in Las Vegas right up until he passed away earlier this year.

October 2nd won't be the first time "Texas Dolly" has been honored since his passing. Brunson's son and fellow Poker Hall of Famer, Todd Brunson, fired up the Vegas Golden Knights crowd at T-Mobile Arena just days after his father died. During the 2023 WSOP, friends and poker fans paid tribute to the legend at a memorial inside Horseshoe Las Vegas.
