Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Mbale Regional Referral Hospital has received dialysis machines worth Shillings 200 million from the Health Ministry. The machines will be used to treat patients with kidney failure problems. Dr. Erick Ebono, who is set to lead the dialysis unit at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, says that they have been sending 2 to 3 patients every week to Kiruddu or Mulago Referral Hospitals in Kampala for kidney treatment.

Among the most affected were mothers who, after giving birth, sometimes suffered kidney injuries, and individuals who overindulged in alcohol. Dr. Ebono expressed his gratitude to the team of doctors from Kiruddu Hospital who trained them in how to use the machines.

One of the doctors from Kiruddu Hospital in Kampala who participated in training his colleagues, explained that most regions of the country, including the north, west, and eastern, are now covered by dialysis units. He believes that this unit in Mbale will save more people with permanent kidney failures.

Yono Obo, the Senior Director of Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, extended his thanks to the Government of Uganda for providing this valuable equipment. He noted that it has been a costly endeavor for patients who would be referred to Mulago or Kiruddu Hospitals in terms of transportation and travel.
