iciHaiti - Crisis : Hospitals and a Physiotherapy Center threatened with closure for lack of fuel

The organization "Our Little Brothers and Sisters" (NPFS) and the "Saint-Luc Foundation" (FSL) inform that the Saint-Damien and Saint-Luc Hospitals as well as the Sainte Germaine Physiotherapy Center are threatened with cessation of their activities for lack of fuel...

"Our strategic reserve of fuel available at the Smart Grid Energy Center of the Saint-Luc Foundation, supplying these two Hospitals and the Physiotherapy Center with electrical energy is almost completely exhausted.

We are issuing a SOS to the main fuel suppliers to allow the crucial bailout of our reserve to guarantee the continuation of pediatric services for more than 153 hospitalized children and for more than 47 pregnant women in the maternity ward of Saint-Damien Hospital; emergency care and hospitalization for more than 70 adults, including trauma care at Saint-Luc Hospital. In the absence of an immediate bailout, we will have not other choice to see the upcoming cessation of care services at the two hospitals (Saint-Luc and Saint-Damien) and the Sainte Germaine Physiotherapy Center of NPFS. In addition, to this situation will be added the layoff of our employees who are strongly affected by the impact of this umpteenth fuel crisis on public transport.

We call on State authorities, the private business sector and individuals, to quickly facilitate a fuel delivery corridor not only to Saint-Luc and Saint-Damien hospitals, but also to all hospitals affected by this persistent crisis of fuel supply."
