iciHaiti - Politic : OFATMA dismisses 4 union employees

The Promotion and Communication Department of the Workplace Accident, Sickness and Maternity Insurance Office (OFATMA) informs that the General Directorate is obliged to terminate the services of four employees and members of the Staff Union (Thelusmé Madsen, Wasembeck Waltes, Mesius J. Sebastien and Amontil Bazile) for illegal strike and endangering the lives of others.

This decision follows the acts that the latter perpetrated from September 11 to 18, 2023 at the OFATMA hospital in the military city as well as at the Sonapi Medical Unit. They chained and then padlocked the barriers of these two healthcare delivery structures, driving out both the insured and the patients from the outpatient clinic and preventing doctors from treating the sick.

The General Directorate had to refer all work accident victims to peripheral units so that they received the care their cases required. It should be noted that according to the daily statistics of the outpatient clinic, the military city hospital receives on average 70 to 80 patients per day. While the Sonapi Medical Unit welcomes on average 50 to 60 workers per day. All of these people were deprived of their fundamental right to access health care. These acts represent a blatant case of endangering the lives of others.
