FIBA World Cup review shows record growing on social media

MIES, Switzerland, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- A data review from the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) showed record-breaking engagement on social media and growth of basketball fans around the world after the World Cup 2023.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, which was held jointly in the Phillipines, Japan and Indonesia earlier this month, had more than 20 billion impressions and 480 million engagements across all platforms, according to a report of FIBA on Tuesday.

The FIBA and FIBAWC accounts on all social platforms drew 4.5 million new fans between the competition draw and the final of the tournament, and the total followers of both channels are 35.4 million.

Over 16 million users registered on the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 website and the mobile app was downloaded for one million times, the reports said.

Germany won the world championship for the first time in history and the final between Germany and Serbia claimed a 35 percent market share in Germany. Over 700,665 attended the tournament and the game between the Philippines and the Dominican Republic at the Philippine Arena reached a record-breaking crowd of 38,115.
