iciHaiti - Crisis : Message by former President a.i. Jocelerme Privert

Message by former President a.i. Jocelerme Privert :

"My dear compatriots, in these times of turbulence and uncertainty, I invite you all to draw on our patriotism and our sense of compromise to begin a real dialogue capable of preventing our country from sinking further into this chaos, which threatens it more and more.

The polarization of the political situation, aggravated by calls for a general uprising and the linguistic excesses of certain political actors, risks plunging the country into a political adventurism whose consequences no one can foresee.

The deterioration of economic and social conditions resulting from the persistence of this long crisis is unsustainable and must challenge us all. It is the fundamental cause of this discontent that a large segment of the population expresses both through social networks and in the recurring street demonstrations. Concrete and urgent measures capable of responding quickly to the expectations of the most vulnerable social categories of society are expected of those responsible for managing the affairs of the State.

The whole country, the parents and relatives of the very many compatriots, murdered or victims of acts of kidnapping and sequestration for ransom, expect targeted actions against all those who have distributed arms in popular neighborhoods, supported groups armed and even more, profited from the prebends coming from the illicit traffic of weapons, at the origin of this climate of terror which settled in the country.

I am convinced that those who stir up hatred, by their words, fuel the fire of revolt and cause chaos as a means of gaining power, are not doing so in the interest of the country.

The situation is serious. It is a duty for all Haitian citizens, driven by concern for the general interest and collective well-being, to denounce these excesses and to act in such a way as to stop this political adventurism which seems to be looming on the horizon. "
