Catholic abuse survivors ask Vatican to match US church safety standards

Abuse survivors made a strong call to the Vatican this monday asking to copy the US catholic churchs safety rules everywhere. The american rules (which got started back in 02) make it clear: if theres even one proven case of abuse the priest gets kicked out for good

The US-based policy — which came during a really bad time for the church — sets up some no-nonsense rules: any priest who does something wrong or admits to it gets permanently removed from church work. These rules have been working in america for more than two decades but other places dont have them yet

The survivors group pointed out a simple fact: if these rules keep kids safe in the US they should work just as well everywhere else. They want the Vatican to make this a world-wide thing because right now its just an american rule. The whole point is making sure every kid gets the same protection no matter where they go to church

We need the same rules everywhere‚ not just in America; every child deserves equal protection

Statement from abuse survivors group

The push for change focuses on making a single clear rule that works the same way in every country - one strike and youre out kind of deal. Its pretty straight-forward: do something bad; lose your job forever
