The turning point came when Floridaʼs GOP-led government passed rules that dont allow Chinese people without permanent residency to own real-estate in the state (a move that affected many newcomers to America). This decision hit close to home for Xue who arrived from China as a college student and got her citizenship around 10 yrs ago
