Colorado housing complex from viral crime video faces shutdown after Trump's comments

The Aurora housing authority made a hard-hitting choice to close most of its six-building residential complex (which got national attention after Donald Trump used it to make claims about gang activity)

Last summer a disturbing event shook the neighborhood when armed individuals were seen entering one of the units; this was followed by a deadly shooting outside. The video of the incident went viral and caught ex-president Trumpʼs attention who made un-proven statements about Venezuelan gangs taking control of the suburb

City attorney Pete Schulte explained that the complex has faced multiple issues:

  • frequent criminal activity
  • poor living standards
  • building code violations
  • safety concerns for residents

The local government plans to shut down five out of six buildings by early-2024‚ leaving just one structure operational. The decision comes as part of the citys effort to address both security issues and sub-standard living conditions that have plagued the property for quite some time
