Florida voters make surprising choice about DeSantis-removed state attorney
Former Orlando state attorney wins back position after being removed by Florida governor last year. Election results show mixed outcomes for two attorneys who lost their jobs due to governors actions
In a notable turn-of-events Monique Worrell won back her state attorney position in Orlando area this tuesday‚ defeating non-party candidate Andrew Bain (who replaced her after governorʼs decision)
The election marked a split outcome for two state attorneys previously taken out of office by Ron DeSantis: while Worrell got her job back in central Florida‚ Andrew Warren lost his try to return in Tampa region - where Suzy Lopez kept the position she got after his removal
Both removals happened not long ago — Warren got pushed out in late-22 and Worrell lost her spot last summer during what critics called politically-driven moves by the governor. The Orlando-area race showed that local voters dont always agree with top-down decisions: they picked Worrell over the hand-picked replacement
The tampa-area results went different way though as Warren (who got removed about 2 years ago) couldnt beat Lopez; who now continues as the regions chief prosecutor
