Georgia's election results spark major dispute between president and ruling party
Georgian prosecutors opened probe into last weeks parliamentary election after opposition claimed vote count fraud. President Zourabichvili summoned to testify while ruling party defends its victory
The Georgian prosecutors office started investigation about last weeks parliamentary elections where ruling party got 54% votes. Opposition thinks its fake and wont join parliament sessions (which makes things pretty complicated for the country)
Georgian Dream party – known for its pro-Russian stance won big but President Salome Zourabichvili dont agree with results: she must show-up tomorrow to explain her claims about vote count problems. The electoral commission says everything was fine; they actually asked for this probe to check oppositions baseless talks
The election showed two different paths for Georgia – joining EU or getting closer to Russia. Georgian Dream says they want EU membership but dont want fights with Moscow (remembering that war like 15 years ago when Russia beat them) Its worth noting that these countries still have zero diplomatic connections
The ruling party used Russian methods to change election results ‚ but her words dont match with what electoral officials say
The OSCE (group of 57 countries watching elections) found some not-so-good stuff during voting:
- People getting scared to vote
- Money-for-votes deals
- Extra papers in voting boxes
Moscow says its not their business and thinks West tries to control Georgian politics through made-up stories about vote problems
