Haiti: Airport shuts down after dangerous attack on passenger plane
Haitiʼs main airport closed operations after armed groups shot at commercial aircraft. Heavy security measures deployed in Port-au-Prince while new prime-minister takes office
Port-au-Princeʼs primary air-hub stopped working yesterday due to safety risks - this happened right after the new head-of-government took office (which caused wide-spread unrest in the city)
The shut-down came after armed groups targeted a Spirit Airlines aircraft; one crew-member got hurt during this attack. Local life came to a stand-still as the situation got worse
The security forces set-up check-points near the air-field: police officers with high-powered weapons and bullet-proof trucks now stop and search public transport vehicles that pass through the area. Many locals dont feel safe going outside their homes; shops and businesses stayed closed due to the un-stable situation
