Kremlin warns West: Nuclear talks about Ukraine cross dangerous line

The Kremlins spokesman Dmitry Peskov strongly pushed-back against Western discussions about giving nuclear weapons to Ukraine calling such talks completely out-of-touch with reality (based on a New York Times article that quoted unnamed sources)

Some Western decision-makers suggested that US president Joe Biden might consider returning nuclear arms to Ukraine: which the country gave up about 30 years ago after Soviet Union broke apart. The 1994 Budapest deal saw Ukraine hand over its nuclear arsenal in exchange for safety promises from Russia Britain and America

These are absolutely irresponsible arguments of people who have a poor understanding of reality and who do not feel a shred of responsibility when making such statements

Dmitry Peskov stated

Former president Dmitry Medvedev made it clear that Moscow would see any nuclear transfer to Ukraine as an attack on Russia — which could trigger a nuclear response. The situation got more complex last week when:

  • Ukraine shot Western-made missiles into Russia
  • Moscow fired back with new hypersonic weapons
  • Both sides showed they can hit targets deeper than before

Volodymyr Zelenskiy mentioned last month that since Ukraine doesnt have nuclear weapons anymore NATO membership is its only protection. Meanwhile intelligence chief Sergei Naryshkin said Russia wont accept just stopping the fight: they want long-term peace that fixes the main issues
