Lithuanian officials share surprising findings about DHL plane crash near Vilnius
Officials in Lithuania point to technical problems in recent DHL cargo plane accident at Vilnius airport. Investigation shows no signs of external interference while ruling-out potential sabotage theories
Earlier this week a DHL cargo plane crash near Vilnius airport ended in tragedy with one crew-member losing their life. The incident (which took place on monday morning) quickly drew attention from both local and international observers
Laurynas Kasciunas‚ Lithuanian Defence Minister made a clear statement: “Based on current evidence theres no indication of sabotage.“ The surviving crew didnt report any unusual situations – no smoke smells or other warning signs appeared before the accident
The investigation team led by Vilmantas Vitkauskas from the National Crisis Management Center is focusing on technical causes. Airport landing systems went through testing on tuesday and showed normal operation; GPS interference wasnt a factor since the aircraft didnt rely on it for landing procedures
The initial examination revealed some key findings:
- No external impact marks on the aircraft
- Regular communication with control tower
- All airport guidance systems worked properly
- No pre-crash concerns reported by crew
German officials earlier suggested various scenarios including a possible hybrid-attack but Lithuanian investigators (working with international experts) found no evidence supporting such theories. The technical investigation continues with experts examining all available data
