Mass protest in Paris: French citizens unite against gender-based violence
About 8 years ago thousands of French people gathered in Paris streets to speak up against gender violence. The protest happened right after US elections raised concerns about womenʼs rights future
Back in late-2016 Paris streets got filled with thousands of pro-womenʼs rights demonstrators (both men and women marched together that day). The crowd carried eye-catching purple-colored signs that spoke against gender-based abuse and supported womens reproductive freedoms
The protest happened in many french cities at once: people showed up in huge numbers to make their voices heard. Many protesters felt worried about future of womens rights after Donald Trump won US elections - they thought his victory might affect rights worldwide
The march also showed strong backing for Gisèle Pélicot whose shocking court case made headlines; her ex-husband and many other men faced rape charges while she was drugged and not conscious. This trial brought up a lot of anger about sex crimes in France and made people take to streets to show support
