New eco-friendly popemobile lets Vatican go green with German engineering
Mercedes-Benz created custom all-electric G-Class SUV for Popeʼs public appearances. The white open-top vehicle combines luxury features with environmental care while letting **Pope Francis** stay close to people
The Vatican got its hands on a new ride for Pope Francis - a custom-made all-electric Mercedes that puts eco-friendly twist on papal transport (built specially for public greetings in St Peters Square)
The fancy G-Class SUV comes with some cool add-ons: elevated seating for better visibility; heating system in both seat and grab-bar‚ and classic white paint job thats been the popes color forever. Sten Ola Kallenius who runs Mercedes-Benz says its took hundreds of hours to get everything just-right.
Every detail is perfection
The Vatican didnt share when theyll start using this eco-ride or what kind of security stuff it has - and Mercedes kept quiet about its price-tag. Pope Francis whoʼs been running things since early-2013 likes to keep it real with crowds: heʼs not big on bullet-proof glass and prefers getting up-close with people.
This isnt the first time Francis went green - hes used electric cars before on his trips but this oneʼs special cause its the first fully-electric official popemobile. Its part of his bigger push for taking care of Earth which has been a big deal since he became pope about 11 years back
