New Iowa poll shows unexpected shift in presidential race just before election day
Latest polling data from Iowa presents contradicting results for presidential candidates just days before election. Two major surveys show different leaders with significant gaps between Harris and Trump
A fresh Des Moines Register poll released yesterday shows Kamala Harris taking an unexpected lead over Donald Trump in Iowa - a state that used to be his strong-hold
The poll (conducted last week with 808 likely voters) puts Harris at 47% and Trump at 44%; this marks a big-time switch from early-fall numbers when Trump was ahead. Older women and non-party voters seem to be the main reason for this turn-around
Its worth noting that Trump won Iowa twice before - both times with more than 8-point leads. However the Trump teams chief data people say this new poll is way off-base; they point to another study done by Emerson College that shows a totally different picture
The Emerson survey (done just two days ago) gives Trump a 10-point advantage: showing him doing well with men and independent voters while Harris gets support from under-30 folks
The race for those six electoral votes comes as part of a nation-wide battle thats heating up - with early-voting already happening and election day coming up this tuesday. Both sides are now focusing on key states like:
- North Carolina
- Pennsylvania
- Michigan
- Wisconsin
The margin-of-error for both polls sits at 3.4% which means these numbers arent set in stone
