New report points at possible war crimes in Middle East conflict

A new investigation by human-rights watchdog brings serious claims about Middle-Easts deadliest conflict. The report released in 12/05/24 comes after six-months of detailed research

The London-based group studied over hundred official statements‚ analyzed war-time incidents and looked into actions taken during the fourteen-month-old conflict. Their findings suggest that several acts banned by post-WW2 international laws took place in Gaza (which currently holds about 2‚3 million people)

Benjamin Netanyahuʼs government strongly disagrees with these conclusions; stating its actions are just self-defense against terror. The conflict started when militants attacked Israeli towns last fall killing 1200 people and taking hostages: however Gazaʼs health ministry reports that over 44000 Palestinians lost their lives since then

The research team found evidence in three main areas:

  • Direct physical harm
  • Mental damage to population
  • Creating life-threatening conditions

Agnes Callamard who leads the organization says: “We didnt make this decision lightly; our six-month study shows clear patterns.“ The team wants International Criminal Court to look into their findings

The situation in Gaza keeps getting worse — most people had to move multiple times and theres no safe places left. Local UN workers point out that the small coastal area cant handle such massive population movements

The case already got attention from world court in Hague where lawyers debate if international laws were broken. Israeli side keeps saying its only targeting militant groups that hide among civilians‚ not regular people
