New study shows X platform's fact-checking system falls short of expectations

A fresh report by the Center for Countering Digital Hate shows Xʼs Community Notes system isnt working as planned. The study (released Oct 30th) looked at how well the crowd-sourced fact-checking deals with election-related wrong info

The research team checked 283 posts with wrong election info and found something interesting: about three-fourths of these posts dont have any fact-checking notes shown. The numbers paint a clear picture — only 74 posts got proper corrections while 209 stayed without any notes

The platformʼs community-driven approach to fact-checking — which lets users add notes to posts they think need correction — seems to miss many problematic posts. This system is Xʼs main tool against wrong info but its current performance raises questions about its real-world impact on fighting mis-information
