Nigerian security team vanishes after massive power grid patrol clash
Security patrol of 80 officers got into fierce battle with militants in north-central Nigeria. Seven officers went missing after facing off against huge militant group during power-grid protection mission
In a recent power-grid protection mission seven members of Nigerias defense team went missing after a large-scale confrontation in north-central region. The incident happened in mid-november when a well-armed security detail got caught in an un-expected situation
The 80-person convoy from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps was doing its regular check-up of power infrastructure in Shiroro (Niger state) when about 200 hostile fighters launched a surprise attack. During the high-intensity clash security forces managed to push back the assault but lost contact with some team members
Babawale Afolabi the defence corps spokesman shared details about the operation: around 50 attackers didnt survive the fire-fight while the government forces suffered personnel losses – with seven officers currently un-accounted for. The attacking group was identified as members of the militant organization thatʼs been active in the region
The security team was part of a specialized unit thats job includes:
