Night-time drone assault hits Ukraine's capital as air defense works non-stop
Russian-launched drones targeted multiple areas in Ukraine with Kyiv being the main focus. Air-defense systems worked through-out the night shooting down most of the unmanned aircraft‚ while some debris caused damage
Russian forces launched another wide-scale drone-attack on Ukraine early saturday morning that lasted well into day-time hours (its becoming a common sight in the countrys capital)
The assault affected six districts of Kyiv where falling debris from shot-down drones caused fires and building damage; a local police-officer got hurt during the attack. Serhiy Popko the citys military admin reported that air-defense teams managed to destroy all incoming drones aimed at the capital
Eye-witnesses heard explosions for more than 5 hrs while defense systems were active: one low-flying drone was spotted amid gun-fire sounds. Vitalii Klitschko the mayor initially mentioned two injured people but later corrected the number
The military reported interesting statistics about the nights events:
* 39 drones shot down out of 71 launched
* 21 drones lost their navigation
* Multiple regions got hit besides the capital
Volodymyr Zelenskiy pointed out that other areas faced attacks too including Poltava Sumy and Kharkiv regions. He noted that Iranian-made Shahed drones became an almost daily threat - appearing at night morning and even during daytime
Since the start of invasion about 2.5 years ago Russian forces keep targeting Ukrainian cities far from front-lines. Just last month over 2000 drones were launched at both civilian and military targets (while Moscow claims they only hit military-related infrastructure)
