North Korea's leader backs Russia in latest military talks - what's behind this move?
Kim Jong Un met with Russian defense minister to discuss Ukraine situation and military cooperation. Both countries strengthen their ties through mutual defense agreements while exchanging military resources
Kim Jong Un met with Russian defense chief Andrei Belousov yesterday showing strong support for Moscowʼs military actions. During their meet-up Kim pointed out that US-supplied long-range weapons to Ukraine are a direct intervention in the conflict; stating Russia has full rights to defend its territory
The north korean leader promised to back Moscowʼs military moves: this includes sending supplies and other resources (which according to intel reports already reached over 10k containers of military equipment). Their partnership got way stronger since last fall when Kim and Putin had their first big meet-up
North Koreaʼs involvement goes beyond just equipment:
- Sending military personnel to Russian regions
- Providing artillery systems
- Supporting defense infrastructure
- Sharing technical know-how
The timing is connected to Ukraineʼs use of US-made ATACMS - which happened this month after Washingtonʼs go-ahead. Russia responded with counter-strikes on Ukraineʼs military spots
Belousov also had talks with NK defense minister No Kwang Chol‚ highlighting how their new partnership helps keep power balance in north-east Asia. Its worth noting that Kim personally showed up at the defense ministrys reception for Russian guests which shows how important these ties are becoming
