Pentagon's new missile defense test near Guam shows unexpected results
US military completed its first-ever missile defense test near Guam using new radar system and advanced interceptor. The successful operation marks a big step for protecting this strategic Pacific location
The Pentagonʼs missile-defense team hit a major win yesterday when they shot down a test missile near Guam (a first-time achievement for this area). The US military used their high-tech Aegis system with some next-gen equipment to make this happen
The test used some cool hardware: a brand-new AN/TPY-6 radar setup and a fancy launching system that sent up a missile made by RTX Corp. The whole thing went down near Anderson Air Force Base where they managed to stop a mid-range missile right in its tracks; this setup is way-more advanced than the old stuff
Guamʼs location makes this super-important - its closer to China than Hawaii which makes it a key spot for US forces in the area. Lt Gen Heath Collins had something to say about it: “This was a tremendous group effort“ he noted while talking about how the test showed off their new defense tricks
The military folks are using this test as part of their bigger plan: theyʼre building whats called the Guam Defense System (GDS). Its gonna be a full package deal with air and missile protection working together. Theyʼre gonna use all the info they got from this test to make the whole thing work better; thats pretty much the point of these practice runs
